I am Kernow Maid (Cornwall made!) Audio aka Helen Rule, an audiobook narrator and vocal actor based in beautiful Cornwall in the UK!! I have narrated and produced over 25 audio books including the children's Amy X series for BAFTA nominated screenwriter Danny King, the 8th book in Wes Markin's best selling DCI Yorke thriller series and the Natalie series by local author Terry Lander.
My Story
After 15 years of orginally studying dance I first began working professionally in the creative industry in 2001 after gaining a BTEC ND in Performing Arts at Cornwall College in 1999. My first musical theatre experience was Penzance Operatic Society's West-Side Story in 1999! During this time I worked behind the scenes at Acorn Theatre in Penzance and at BBC Radio Cornwall, cutting my teeth in voice over and production! Listen to an old segment here: BBC Radio Cornwall (2002) I also did a week at TalkSPORT on the Ian Collins and the Creatures of the Night show joining the late night Creatures for some overnight banter. I was then cast in Hwerow Hweg, the first ever full length feature film filmed entirely in Kernewek in 2001 which was shown at many festivals in the early 2000's and premiered at The Houses of Parliament.

From then on I appeared in over 30 independant features, theatre productions, adverts and short films working as far away as LA! I also worked on many student films with the prestigious University Falmouth in their own studios based on campus. In 2006 I worked on feature The Lark co-directed by BAFTA winning director Mark Jenkin and also played one of the titular sirens in horror Siren Song with C Thomas Howell in 2014. I've also provided voice over for several commercials and appeared in the National tour of Evita during their run at Hall for Cornwall in 2018.
I have worked as a role play artist playing simulated patients for 4th year medical student exams and from 2014 I joined KMF Radio, a CIC, collaborating with local writers and actors performing radio friendly plays, monologues and book extracts from authors locally and all over the world which inspired my interest in vocal acting!
Over lockdown is where I decided to move fully into vocal work having ample time in 2020 to set up and learn the art of long narration and production culminating in my first audio book contract in 2021.

My voice quality is engaging, bright, youthful, soft and soothing. I have received voice and accent training over the years and I continue to keep my skills fresh where I can. I enjoy cozy mysteries, young adult, clean romance, drama and children's books. I also have delved into horror and thriller. My voice is very adaptable but I do not do sci-fi, non-fiction or erotica presently.
